From India with Love 1: The Beginning of Our Delhi Adventures

It is still so surreal to be in India. To witness beautiful colours, visit dreamy sites, eat delicious food, interact with the kindest people and bargain my way to get a deal off the many bangles I now own. 😉

I arrived last Friday, excited to be here with my husband, re-live some of his stories that he shared with me and create new ones together. I don’t get jet lag (unless I’m in denial) but after my first weekend I got a mild cold – it is either from the 17-hour flight or the cold air conditioner at our hotel. Still recovering. But with a full heart I feel grateful, humbled and grounded to be here.

Our hobby of reading books about places we visit has been so rewarding. On the first weekend, we visited Jantar Mantar that was referenced often in my “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness” book by Arundhati Roy and I was delighted to know that we are staying just 10 minutes away. This observatory was built to revise the calendar and astronomical tables.

We were also fortunate to be here during India’s 72nd Independence Day. Our hotel hosted a beautiful cultural ceremony, followed by kite flying, delicious Indian sweets with Masala Chai, and we ended our celebration by visiting India Gate, the Tomb of Safdarjung, Lodhi Gardens and a surprise artsy date planned by moi (more about this in my upcoming post). 🙂

Have you been to India (New Delhi)? What was your favourite thing to do here?

Hope you have a wonderful day, wherever you are! Namaste 🙂
