On our way to Agra I saw a billboard of the Elephant Conservation Centre in Mathura, and if you read my India series 2, visiting a conservation centre was one thing I really wanted to do in India [talk about sending a request to the universe hehe]. It was a beautiful yet heartbreaking and moving experience.
Every civilization looks at different animals, birds, and other creatures in a special way. In India, this majestic animal assumes a very special role in their mythology. However, despite elephants being such a sacred animal, for generations, this animal has been used for various human entertainment (i.e. elephant rides, circus, begging, mean of transportation, perform at various ceremonies..etc). I was happy to learn that they’re finally in a place where they’re treated well and are adapting to living in their natural habitat.
If you’re ever in India I highly recommend visiting this centre, donate, learn and spread awareness if you can. 🙂 Continue to look and treat this majestic creature and all creatures with care and love.
P.S. I was also happy to know that our PM Justin Trudeau took his family to this conservation centre.
