From India with Love 5: Don’t Skip Jaipur City

Jaipur is the largest city in the state of Rajasthan and an obligatory stop on any tour of the so-called Golden Triangle (as per moi). India’s golden triangle is a tourist circuit that connects the three major cities of New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur – and one that I wasn’t going to miss 😉 . This city has a story of its own and is full of hidden treasures to be explored – from stunning forts and glorious mahals (palaces) to tranquil (and not so tranquil monkey) temples and beautiful havelis (mansions).

Peter was not keen on visiting Jaipur. Reasons? 1. It’s 5 hours by car from New Delhi. 2. Some of his colleagues advised that it wasn’t worth visiting. 3. After his work week, he’d rather spend a Saturday by the pool. I am glad though that I was able to convince him otherwise. 🙂 We decided to go two weekends before we left India. Had I known the driver would be honking for 5 hours on the highway trying to pass animals and Tuk Tuks, I would’ve probably opted to stay in Delhi – the ride also drove me mad (haha). On our last day on our way to the Pink City, the tour guide said that if your driver doesn’t honk often it means he’s not a good driver (insert a crying emoji here). Thankfully, we made it safe and truly enjoyed this majestic, colourful, historic and stunning city.

I highly recommend hiring a driver and a tour guide to explore India’s Golden Triangle. Of course, do your research and have an idea of which places you would like to see/visit and be explicit about the budget you have in mind for such trips.
