We’ve all waited for days and perhaps months for the winter to finally say its goodbyes and when we finally thought it was over, it dumped us with another snowfall. We couldn’t wait to ditch our winter boots and coats. One way I counted down the end of winter was by anticipating the bloom of tulips. I walked by the tulip trails almost every day to check whether they were in bloom. 🙂
This Spring season is my first in Ottawa. I used to visit my husband (then fiance) often but never spent a full Spring here and I am so delighted to have experienced it in full this year. I was recently describing to my husband that every season of the year I have something special to look forward to. This Spring I was looking forward to the Tulip Festival, an absolute delight of new beginnings and life.
The Netherlands gifted Canada tulip bulbs as a symbol of friendship and appreciation for the role of Canadian soldiers who served and played a role in the liberation of the Netherlands and the hospitality of Canada to the Dutch Royal Family in Ottawa during WWII. Since then, it’s become one of Canada’s most vibrant seasonal celebrations of sweet, natural beauty, attracting over 650K visitors from around the world for the ten-day festival, which this year took place from May 11th to 21st. If you would like to learn more see here and Canada’s Tulip Festival.
I told my husband if, during the festival, you don’t find me at home I’ll be somewhere by the tulips haha. So grateful that I got to experience the tulips in bloom and the energy that the crowds have brought with them during the weekends. If you haven’t been to Ottawa’s Tulip Festival then you can still catch them in late bloom this week or else plan your next Springtime getaway! It’s definitely a must see. Also, if you want to avoid the crowd to enjoy the tulips then visiting week-days is best. 🙂
My phone and my camera are loaded with these beauties and here I share them with you…
Happy Monday friends!
XO Dalia
